Michael Beale's Rangers hailed as 'exceptional' by pre-season opponents

Rangers' new-look team are crammed full of players full of 'exceptional technical quality' according to the manager of the German third-tier side they beat in a friendly.

The Ibrox side eased to a 2-0 win over Germany's 3.Liga side Hallesche FC in a behind-closed-door game near Weimar as they continued their pre-season preparations.

Michael Beale's side won thanks to a goal from new signing Abdallah Sima and a penalty from captain James Tavernier.

Rangers have so far brought in seven players this summer - Cyriel Dessers, Sam Lammers, Leon Balogun, Jack Butland, Kieran Dowell, Dujon Sterling and Sima.

And Hallesche manager Sreto Ristic was impressed with Rangers. He said: "I thought we competed well and defended for most of the game in a disciplined manner.

"We also managed to create some really good opportunities ourselves.

"But of course, we have to be realistic and understand that Rangers have exceptional technical quality throughout their team.

"Rangers wanted the game to be behind closed doors in order to ensure undisturbed preparation for the new season so I am sorry we couldn't allow our supporters to see us.

"But it was a very worthwhile exercise for us."

Rangers' first official friendly of the new season is on Tuesday when they welcome Newcastle United to Ibrox for Allan McGregor's testimonial.

The Rangers Review team is taking the hugely-popular morning briefing LIVE at New Edmiston House on July 28.

And, we're delighted to announce that none other than Barry Ferguson will join our top team of Jonny McFarlane, Joshua Barrie, Stevie Clifford and Derek Clark.

The doors will open at 6.30pm giving you time to grab a beer or soft drink before we head into an hour of debate and chat ahead of the new season; expect new signing assessments, tactical analysis, predictions and the usual banter. Then, Derek will host an exclusive chat with Barry, gaining insight into his two trophy-laden spells at the club and his take on Michael Beale's rebuild.

Tickets start at just £21.50 and can be purchased HERE.
