Michael Beale reveals Steven Gerrard Rangers support as new boss makes 'can't compare' claim

Michael Beale hasn't spoken to former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard yet about his new role, but knows he has the Englishman's full support.

The apprentice has now become the master as Beale took up the Ibrox hot-seat last week following the sacking of Giovanni Van Bronckhorst, ending a short spell with Queens Park Rangers. Beale was handed the Loftus Road gig in the summer and despite submitting his loyalty to Rs fans, made the switch to Rangers when the chance presented itself.

The coach has less than 30 games in full managerial experience, but admits learning through the 'highs and lows' of Gerrard's reign in Glasgow will stand him in good stead to take on this next challenge. Despite this, Beale revealed he hasn't spoken to the Liverpool icon yet since taking the role on but knows he is supporting him.

He said: "We have missed each other with messages and that, but we go back and forth all the time. I know I have his support and Gary McAllister and the rest of the staff that was here as well.

“I went on a fantastic journey with these guys and I look forward to doing the same with this management. Steven has been a huge influence on me as a person. He has very standards and very high morals and having worked with him for three and half years here he has enabled me to be sat here now.

“I stood beside him for 193 matches. We had bumps in the road but there were load of highs too. We had a very strong squad, with Ross behind the scenes, and we re-developed the training ground and aspects of Ibrox. He brought me on a lot in terms of management and leadership. I think I added a different aspect to the management team in terms of coaching and working with the other coaches.

“I don’t want to compare myself to anybody. Steven will go on to be a fantastic manager. This is the start of a new journey. I’m going to be very hands-on on the training pitch because I think that’s where my skillset is."
