QPR chief executive Lee Hoos has opened up on Michael Beale's decision to leave his side so suddenly to join Rangers after vowing to stay just weeks before - admitting the process caused him to lose almost a stone in weight.
Beale joined QPR in the summer months from Aston Villa, where he was on the books as Steven Gerrard's assistant coach after moving from Rangers last November. Joining the London-based side, he had dragged them to as high as first place in October before interest from Wolves came to the fore.
Turning Wolves down, Beale gave a speech about how he would not 'be the first one to jump the ship', though when Rangers came calling a month later, temptation was too much for the former Liverpool youth coach. With QPR in the lurch and managerless with just over a week until the English Championship break ended, they opened their account with a 3-0 loss to Burnley on Sunday. And having appointed Neil Critchley, chief Hoos spoke to talkSPORT about the ordeal. He said: "What can you do about Beale's exit?
"We can never ever guarantee it under employment law. Employees have certain lives. At the end of the day if somebody wants to go, what are you really going to do? That doesn't serve any party. At the end of the day we work with people, we understand people's personal circumstances, but what we don't want to do is turn that into a lose-lose situation.
"I've learned to trust but verify! The silver lining is I have lost almost a stone. In that way, it's been good for my weight.
"Absolutely, there was a bit of a blip even before everything happened in the managerial change. We just need to get back on track.
"Like I said, I know we have a talented squad, a lot of untapped potential, and we need someone who wants to tap into it. We always monitor who is out there and will be able to turn this around quickly. In the second interview, it was the cream of the cream and we had it done and dusted in two weeks."
