Micah Richards left Roy Keane lost for words and red-faced with his comment on Erling Haaland's dad Alf-Inge.
The Sky Sports pundit couldn't resist making reference to Keane's infamous foul on the former Manchester City midfielder after his son netted a brace on his Citizens debut in Sunday's 2-0 win over West Ham.
Discussing the Norway striker in their post-match analysis, Karen Carney explained how Haaland has great genes. The former England Women's international said: "We checked it earlier, his mum is an athlete as well and we know what his dad has done in his history. He's going to be an absolute specimen..."
Sky Sports host David Jones then interrupted, asking: "What's his dad done?" prompting Richards to pile in: "He was waiting for Roy over there before. I have never seen Roy so nervous, to be honest."
Keane immediately went red-faced although appeared to enjoy Richards' joke.
Richards was referencing Keane's infamous foul on Haaland senior, which effectively ended his career and saw the Irishman red carded, suspended for three games and fined £5,000.
Keane went on to admit the foul was intentional, which earned him a further five-game suspension and an extra fine of £150,000.
The former United captain recently admitted in a quick-fire Q&A with Gary Neville that it's a moment he still thinks about. "In football, I guess maybe when I done my cruciate, the Haaland stuff. When I got injured," he said.
On whether he regretted the incident, he added: "Yeah a bit stupid. I don't think I deserved to do my cruciate for it."
Alf-Inge was in attendance at the London Stadium on Sunday to watch his son in action as he netted twice against the Hammers to get Man City off to a winning start.
Haaland's opener came from the penalty spot after he was wiped out in the box by Alphonse Areola. His second saw him latch onto a Kevin de Bruyne through-ball before firing home.
