Micah Richards responds as Roy Keane snubs former Man City defender from list of best pundits

Micah Richards has responded in typically humorous fashion after Roy Keane snubbed him when asked to name his three favourite football pundits.

Former Manchester City defender Richards and former Manchester United captain Keane have formed an unlikely friendship in recent years, with the pair regularly sharing the Sky Sports studio when providing punditry on Premier League games.

That said, the duo often go head-to-head, particularly when City or United are involved. When City defeated their neighbours 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium last season, Keane became irritated by Richards' partisan behaviour in the studio. Now, Keane might have served Richards a small dose of revenge.

On Monday evening Keane appeared on Monday Night Football with Jamie Carragher and host David Jones, and after Nottingham Forest's 1-1 draw with Aston Villa Keane was asked to rank his top three football pundits. There was no room for Richards, even if he has proved popular among viewers since bringing his playing career to an end at the age of 31.

Carragher was the first pundit Keane named in his top three, although he joked that the pair had done a deal. "What does help when you listen to people like Jamie is they're very passionate, they love what they do and I think that comes across.

"I think Nev [Gary Neville] is very good. I have to go with Nev because again obviously I want tickets for the Salford games," he joked.

"And I like Graeme [Souness]. When I was growing up I would watch Graeme as a player and I thought he was a brilliant player, so he's always had that influence on me. I've done some work with him and, again, I think Graeme thinks along the same lines as me."

Jones quickly pulled Keane up on his omission of Richards, saying: "Spare a thought for Micah Richards who's just sobbing on his sofa right now," prompting laughter from Carragher and a shake of the head from Keane.

Richards soon replied to the snub on social media, sharing a meme which effectively said the same thing. "I thought we had something special," was the caption.

With City's trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool the highlight of Sky's Super Sunday this weekend, it might not be long until Richards and Keane lock horns in the studio.
