Micah Richards has asked Chris Sutton about a coy dig at Rangers boss Michael Beale - with the Celtic hero saying the Londoner has pulled out a Homer Simpson impression.
The former Man City defender was asking for Sutton's thoughts on a tweet he sent after a 1-0 win over Rangers for Celtic in Sunday's Scottish Cup semi-final. After the match, the Record Sport columnist tweeted 'maybe we will see the real Rangers next time #Bealeball' at the end of his praise of Hoops defender Cameron Carter-Vickers.
And it got Richards probing over what was exactly meant by adding that hashtag onto the end of the social media post, asking the former Parkhead striker 'Chris, what do you mean by Bealeball? Is that a dig? You are a very petty man aren't you?' It was responded to in similar tongue-in-cheek fashion by his fellow pundit, who replied with 'Wow... yes I am at times.'
Sutton continued after the quip to further assess the situation at Rangers. He believes that Beale will be doing a impression of the meme that sees the Simpsons cartoon's father figure escaping into a bush, off the back of some comments made in his time as Light Blues boss so far.
Speaking on 5Live's Monday Night Club, Sutton said: "We have talked about Michael Beale a lot. When he went into Rangers, he was talking them up and that they could compete with Celtic.
"He's a bit of a Homer Simpson into the hedge now. Reality has hit home and he is having to eat some humble pie, I think he is shocked in truth, Micah.
"I think he has carved out a reeally good reputation as a coach. He's gone to Rangers and you just can't finish second and he will need a rebuild now, he has to get his transfers right."
