Micah Richards and Liverpool pal Jamie Carragher go head to head over 'harsh' Sterling VAR offside call

Former Manchester City star Micah Richards was fighting a losing battle on Sky Sports punditry duty as he pleaded the case to allow Raheem Sterling's disallowed goal.

Sterling thought he'd netted against former club Liverpool in the massive English Premier League title battle with City only just leading their adversaries by a point.

Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus got the goals that did count for the home side but Jurgen Klopp's men hit back twice through Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane.

Richards debated with punditry pals Jamie Carragher and former Manchester United general Roy Keane.

And he was exasperated as both colleagues shut him down.

Richards said: "It was millimetres. I mean look, we want VAR in the game because it makes important decisions.

"I actually didn't celebrate too much. I was always thinking 'is he offside?'

"By this we are talking millimetres offside. It was a hard one to take but it's the lean, you know.

"In fairness, it's the right decision but you know it's harsh."

Keane responded gruffly: "He's off, he's off. It doesn't matter."

And then Carragher weighed in: "It's not harsh! It's a fact. He's offside."

Richards concluded: "It's harsh and we should be giving the advantage...

"We are talking about a shoulder lean aren't we?"
