MIAMI — The detention of exiled Nicaraguan journalist Luis Galeano by U.S. immigration authorities is provoking an unusual backlash from South Florida Republicans, press-freedom organizations and members of Miami's Nicaraguan community, who warn that deportation could place his life in danger.
Galeano, the 48-year-old director of the Miami-based news and opinion program Café con Voz, was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents Monday morning while working as an Uber driver in Orlando, according to his wife, Deykell Santamaría.
