The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office became eligible for $14.565 million in federal funding after making seven immigration arrests between April and June, according to The Wall Street Journal, as the Trump administration uses financial incentives to recruit local police departments into its immigration enforcement campaign.
The figure amounts to about $2.08 million in eligible funding for each arrest during that period, although the program does not literally pay agencies on a per-arrest basis. The money comes through a Department of Homeland Security task-force initiative that compensates participating state and local agencies for helping enforce federal immigration laws.
