MGM begins process to set up emergency medicine, PMR in compulsory dept list

INDORE: Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College has begun the process to set up Emergency medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) added in the compulsory department list in 2020.

The medical college around a week back advertised one post each of Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant Professor in each of these two departments.

The emergency medicine was added to the list of compulsory departments through a Gazette of India published on October 28, 2020. The medical colleges are asked to set up the departments making them compulsory from session 2022-2023.

MGMMC Dean Prof Dr Sanjay Dixit said, “The advertisement for recruitment of various faculty positions in emergency medicine and PMR department is issued beginning the process of setting up of the department.”

The process began after getting sanction from the medical education department. The medical college sent proposals for setting up of around four new departments to the state government around a couple of months back, said Dr Dixit.

The sanction for setting up of these two departments is given and the process has begun, added Dr Dixit.

The process for setting up of departments however is around a year late and will impact the increase in seats of any of the Undergraduate or Postgraduate seats in medical colleges.

In the state, there are 13 government medical colleges with 2035 MBBS seats, 858 PG seats. There are also 1450 MBBS seats and 543 PG courses seats in private medical colleges in the state.
