Met Police officer charged with assaulting 14-year-old in Brentwood

A serving Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with assault after a child was injured in an altercation in Essex.

PC Paul Bewsey is due to appear in court over the incident which took place during a fight on Hanging Hill Lane in Brentwood on April 21.

The officer, who is attached to the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, was charged by postal requisition on Friday, 21 October following an investigation by Essex Police.

He will appear at Basildon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and the officer is on restricted duties.
