Scotland Yard is facing embarrassment after it was prosecuted and fined £1,000 for failing to respond to letters from another police force about a speeding ticket.

The Metropolitan Police was named as the defendant in a criminal case brought by Staffordshire Police over a van caught driving over the speed limit along the M6.
