Met Office says 8cm of rain could fall in a matter of hours as it issues another weather warning for Wales

The Met Office has issued another weather warning for heavy rain across Wales as the country battles downpours. The forecaster had previously issued a weather warning for Tuesday, January 10, but new warnings have now been issued going into Wednesday and Thursday as heavy rain causes disruption.

The new yellow weather warning is in place from 9pm on Wednesday, January 11, to 5pm on Thursday, January 12 and covers all of south Wales. The warning for Tuesday stretches the entirety of the country. The warning reads: "A spell of persistent rain will begin on Wednesday evening, spreading east across parts of England and Wales through Thursday.

"The rain is expected to be heavy at times, particularly across higher parts of southwest England and Wales, while periods of lighter, more intermittent rain are possible away from high ground. Rainfall accumulations through the period are widely expected to be 15-30 mm, but peak totals of 60-80 mm could build up over higher ground. In addition, very strong west or southwest winds are expected, producing gusts up to 45mph inland and 60mph along some coasts and across high ground, with the peak in the winds most likely on Wednesday night."
