A new weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for Wales for Wednesday through to Thursday. The original weather warning for snow and ice which was issued earlier this week has now been extended.
The reason for the updated warning is to extend the warning area further north and remove parts of southern UK where the likelihood of impacts from snow and ice has waned. This means the warning now stretches from south Wales through to mid and north Wales, but excludes areas of Wales that are west from Swansea.
This warning is in place from the early hours of Wednesday morning right through to 7am on Thursday. A second weather warning for snow, which covers mid Wales to north Wales and parts of northern England and Scotland is also in place for 7am on Thursday until 2pm on Friday.

The weather agency is warning that the heavy snow has potential to cause disruption on Thursday and Friday. People should expect possible travel delays on roads and delays and cancellations for rail and air travel.
Schools across Wales are closed on Wednesday following heavy snow fall. You can see the full list of school closures here. Flights have also been grounded at Bristol airport as crews work to clear snow off the runway.
The Met Office weather forecast for Wednesday says: "A bright and frosty start in the north, cloudier further south with some sleet or snow spreading northeastwards through the day. Feeling cold, with a brisk breeze in the south. Maximum temperature 5 °C."
Tonight: "Widespread rain, sleet and snow across the south, but largely dry but cloudy in the north. Cold with some icy patches forming. Breezy in the south. Minimum temperature 0 °C."
Thursday: "Becoming milder from the southwest with sleet/snow mostly turning back to rain in the south later. Some heavy bursts through the afternoon. Breezy with strong winds on the south coast. Maximum temperature 12 °C."
Outlook for Friday to Saturday: "Staying unsettled with strong winds on Friday and some sleet/snow over hills. Winds easing on Saturday but with further rain and sleet. A slight improvement on Sunday."
