Met Office Greater Manchester weekend weather forecast with sunshine and showers

Greater Manchester has been enjoying much milder temperatures this week, as well as some welcome bursts of sunshine.

After a wet and windy end to February, spring has finally arrived bringing much clearer skies with it.

According to the Met Office, we can expect to see some more of the sun this weekend. The warmer temperatures suggest it could be a great weekend to get out of the house and head outside - but you might want to bring an umbrella.

Saturday could see some light rain but the afternoon is set for some bright sunny intervals, with a slight breeze. Heavy showers could fall overnight.

Sunday is much the same with both showers and sunny spells expected. The morning could see some stronger winds with gusts of up to 34mph predicted in Manchester.

Temperatures should stay between 10C and 12C during the day time. The Met Office predicts that the weather will be "more settled" towards the middle of next week.

Rain is likely in the northwest on Tuesday night and Wednesday, forecasters said, but many places will see longer periods of dry and bright weather too.

Temperatures will remain close to normal for mid-March, and the chance of some overnight frost remains. On the chances of snow in March, the Met office said it "looks unlikely".

Here's the Met Office forecast for Greater Manchester and the north west this weekend:

Saturday

"Scattered showers during the morning. These fading into the afternoon with an increasing number of bright or sunny intervals. Feeling pleasant in the sun but turning breezier later. Maximum temperature 12 °C.

"Winds strengthening further through the evening with local coastal gales developing. Cloud building ahead of showers and longer spells of rain overnight, heavy at times. Frost free and relatively mild. Minimum temperature 6 °C."

Sunday

"A cloudy start to Sunday with scattered showers, these gradually fading with brighter spells emerging between. Windy for much of the day, taking an edge off temperatures, then easing later. Maximum temperature 12 °C."

Next week

"Calmer on Monday and Tuesday with lighter winds and staying largely dry with sunny periods. Feeling mild by day but overnight frost and fog possible. Rain returning for Wednesday."
