Message to all freeview users as BBC TV channel makes return

BBC has announced the return of a popular TV channel - but some viewers could miss out if they don't update their devices.

From Tuesday, February 1, BBC Three made a comeback to live television but millions of viewers might have missed the chance to see its debut since 2016.

Viewers should make sure their telly box is updated to get the most out of BBC Three, the broadcaster warned.

Explaining more in a post online the BBC explained: "Freeview users may need to retune to find BBC Three, if it’s not already listed in your EPG (electronic programme guide)."

Sky, Freesat and Virgin customers boxes should update automatically.

If you're unsure on how to retune your telly, Freeview has a guide to help you along the way.

The BBC also added that viewers using Virgin will need to reset any BBC One or BBC Four series links due to technical changes put in place to support the launch of BBC Three.

Once updated, your Freeview device will automatically find BBC Three via Channel 23 - but this has caused some issues since that slot is already filled by Dave.

In fact, a number of channels are being shifted around with services such as ITV4, Yesterday, ITV+1 and GREAT! Movies all moving.

Furthermore, all channels between numbers 23 and 82 will be moving up one number - the only exception is Dave Ja Vu who will be moving up two channels from numbers 23 to 25.

Explaining more in a blog post, Freeview said: "Following Ofcom’s consultation on BBC’s proposals for the launch of BBC Three, the channel will be launching on Freeview channel 23 in SD and channel 109 in HD (For England, Northern Ireland & the Channel Islands) on 26 January 2022.

"Changes to some channel numbers will be taking place at midday on 26 January to comply with requirements published by Ofcom as part of their consultation."
