Merseyside food market named one of the best in the UK

A Merseyside food market has been named among the best in the UK.

Woodside Ferry Village in Wirral has been named in the top 12 city-based food markets in the UK by Visit Britain. The food market has been included in the exclusive list due to its "artsy produce, proper tasty nosh and sweeping citywide views."

Woodside Ferry Village was launched in June 2019 by Wirral Chamber Of Commerce and has transformed the former ferry terminal booking hall into a vibrant dining space. The market has a huge range of food and drink on offer.

About Woodside Ferry Market, Visit Britain said: "Look across the River Mersey from Liverpool’s waterfront to Woodside Food and Market, based in Birkenhead’s Woodside Ferry Village. Pulling together artisan makers, creators and entrepreneurs, this market is the place to be for finding artsy produce, proper tasty nosh and sweeping citywide views.

"Within its 20 chalets, try Japanese gyozas and sushi from Haku, or tickle your taste buds with an African-Caribbean fusion of flavours from Ena Pa. Find the market open from Wednesday to Sunday."

The market is open Wednesday to Sunday, offering views over to Liverpool and two newly opened bars, Pausha wine and cocktail bar and Murphy’s gin and beer bar, as well as outdoor markets every weekend. The food and drink vendors inside the venue include American burger joint Scooby’s, Japanese fusion restaurant, Haku, vegan venue Joro, Wirral favourite Caffe Cream, Greek restaurant Alex’s Pita and more.

The Woodside Ferry Village independent markets attract an abundance of local makers, bakers and creators who offer a wide range of artisan goods, every weekend between 10am and 4pm.

Wirral Chamber Of Commerce CEO, Paula Basnett, said: “We’re thoroughly proud of being included in this list alongside the likes of Borough Market in South London and Manchester Piccadilly’s Street Food Market. It’s a great recognition of how hard the team here have been working during the past three years — creating something unique in Wirral that promotes local independents.”

Laura-Jane Dodd, of Wirral Chamber Of Commerce and Independent Wirral markets added: “The regular weekend markets here at Woodside have been a huge success — showcasing hundreds of different independents over the past year since we formed the concept. We have created the perfect platform for our local makers, bakers and creators to showcase their products in this fabulous location. Wirral Chamber Of Commerce is all about promoting local businesses and at Woodside Ferry Village we truly feel we are achieving this.”

Woodside Ferry Village is located at Woodside Ferry Terminal and is open Wednesday to Sunday, with weekend markets operating in chalets outside on Saturdays and Sundays.
