Turkey defender Merih Demiral will miss Saturday’s Euro 2024 quarter-final tie against the Netherlands after he was hit with a two-game ban for his goal celebration in Tuesday’s win over Austria.
Demiral scored both goals in the 2-1 last-16 victory in Leipzig and celebrated the second of those by mimicking the shape of a wolf’s head with his fingers, a gesture linked with the Turkish far-right ultra-nationalist group known as the Grey Wolves.
