Merhdad Ghodoussi's two-word assessment sums up bleak Newcastle United afternoon

Newcastle United’s heavy 5-1 defeat against Tottenham was comfortably their worst performance of 2022. The result was so much more disappointing because of the contrast between an impressive first-half performance and a horrendous second-half one.

For 45 minutes, the Magpies were probably the better team and, had it not been for a lapse in concentration after Fabian Schar’s opener, they would have gone into the half-time interval a goal to the good. Although, that would have been almost totally irrelevant as a poor defensive showing afterwards helped a ruthless Spurs side to a very comfortable victory.

Along with the few thousand strong Toon Army in the away end, Amanda Staveley and Merhdad Ghodoussi were in attendance in North London as they once again showed their commitment to the club. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to witness a special performance and the latter summed it up perfectly on Twitter after the match.
