'Men in balaclavas' attempt to hijack woman's car in Newtownabbey

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a report of a car hijacking in Co Antrim on Sunday.

A woman's car was allegedly approached by two men wearing balaclavas that broke the car's back window and stole items from her vehicle.

The incident occurred in the Ballycraigy Way area of Newtownabbey at around 7.30am on December 18.

A spokesperson for the PSNI said: "A woman was driving in the Ballycraigy Way area around 7.30am. Two men wearing balaclavas came out of an alleyway and stood in front of her vehicle.

"They then started banging on the car asking for her mobile and keys.

"The back window of the car was then broken and items were stolen from the vehicle."

Inspector Barrie Jordan added: “Our investigation is underway and we would ask anyone who witnessed the hijacking or noticed any unusual activity, or has any CCTV or dash-cam footage, in the Ballycraigy Way area to contact us on 101 quoting reference 559 of 18/12/22.”
