A memorial service will take place on Sunday morning to mark the 10th anniversary of the murder of two police officers. Families of PCs Nicola Hughes and Fiona bone are expected to attend the public event outside Hyde police station where they were based.
PC Hughes, 23, from Saddleworth, and PC Bone, 32, from Sale, were shot dead by fugitive Dale Cregan on September 18, 2012 - it was one of the darkest days in British policing.
Their killer had been on the run, after murdering gangland rivals Mark Short and his father David, that summer. He lured the two officers to an address in Mottram in Langdendale, near Hattersley, with a bogus report of a burglary. He shot them dead and threw a grenade on their bodies. Cregan is serving a whole life sentence for four murders.

A service outside Hyde police station on Sunday morning, which is expected to be attended by the families of both officers as well as former colleagues, politicians and council officials, will mark the tenth anniversary of their deaths.
They will meet at a memorial garden in their name, where wreaths will be layed and there will be a minute of silence at 10.53am to mark the moment they were killed.
Ahead of the memorial service, Chief Superintendent Phil Davies said: "Although 10 years has past, the emotion and grief is still felt on anniversaries such as this and reminds us of the dangerous situations officers face on a daily basis.
"On Sunday, we will come together with Nicola and Fiona’s families and honoured guests, to reflect on the passing of a decade since they made the ultimate sacrifice for the oath they took as police officers.
"Nicola and Fiona’s essence and presence remain with us and is tangibly felt by those who knew and worked with them, but also their colleagues who have joined the GMP family after their passing."
The memorial service is open to the public and people are welcome to attend the event which begins at 10.40am.
