Melinda French Gates’ journey into technology and philanthropy can be traced, in part, to lessons she absorbed while growing up in Dallas. Her father, Raymond Joseph French Jr., worked as an aerospace engineer during the era of NASA’s Apollo programme, while her mother, Elaine French, placed a strong emphasis on education.
But beyond her father’s work, it was the women she encountered through his professional world who helped shape an important idea early in her life: women could build careers in science, mathematics and engineering too, according to a report in TOI.
