Meghan Markle is 'not in talks to sign deal with Dior' royal expert claims

Meghan Markle is reportedly not in talks with Dior to sign a deal, according to sources who claim there is no truth behind rumours the Duchess will partner with the French fashion house.

The news comes as Harry and Meghan's award winning Spotify podcast was recently axed and the royal couple have been spotted dressed in the designer brand on multiple different occasions.

The Daily Telegraph's royal correspondent, Victoria Ward, tweeted on Monday: "The Duchess of Sussex is not in talks to sign a deal with Dior, sources insist.

"They say there is no truth to the claims that she will partner with the French fashion house.

"They [previously] denied that a deal between [Prince] Harry and Dior was in the offing after he wore the label."

Her tweet comes after reports that Meghan was looking to reinvent herself and might have been on the verge of signing a huge deal with Dior, the Express reports.

According to a report in Mail Online, a prominent Beverly Hills socialite previously said that Meghan "is all anyone is talking about" and that rumours had been circulating for weeks about the Duchess signing a deal with Dior "which has put the gossip mill into overdrive".

The source claimed: "If she pulls that off, then no one will remember that her silly little podcast got cancelled after one season."

The Duke and Duchess of Sussexes' production company Archewell Audio made one podcast series for the streaming giant Spotify after signing a deal in late 2020, which was thought to be worth around £19.5m.

The ending of the deal raised questions regarding the popularity of the podcast, which was hosted by Meghan, and whether the agreement had been valuable enough for Spotify which announced job cuts earlier this month.

Prince Harry recently wore a suit by Dior's artistic director Kim Jones to King Charles III' historical Coronation last month.

Meghan previously wore Dior to the National Service of Thanksgiving during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II last summer.

The Duchess also wore Dior to the late monarch's state funeral, her son Prince Archie's christening and on a number of other royal occasions before the Sussexes stepped down as senior working royals in March 2020;.

The royals later moved to the States for personal and financial freedom with the Spotify deal, alongside a Netflix partnership rumoured to be worth in excess of £100m, which appeared to vindicate their decision.

However, to maintain their lavish lifestyle, which now includes paying for their own security since leaving the Firm, the Sussexes need to ensure they generate a large income which has always been problematic for members of the monarchy.

Public relations expert Mark Borkowsk told the Daily Mail that the couple has "great power in fashion" and "are wanted by fashion houses".

He said: "They are more comfortable in this world... It does seem to be a series of weird coincidences: Harry wears a Dior suit at the Coronation and Dior at the hacking case and now a deal may be in the offing."

The Archetypes podcast ran for 12 episodes from August 2022 with Meghan bringing a number of different celebrities, experts and historians onto the show to speak about the history of stereotypes levelled against women.

Tennis star Serena Williams, Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey and actors Mindy Kaling and Constance Wu were among the star guests on the podcast.

A joint statement from Archewell and Spotify read: "Spotify and Archewell Audio have mutually agreed to part ways and are proud of the series we made together."

An Archewell Productions spokeswoman reportedly told the Wall Street Journal: "Meghan is continuing to develop more content for the Archetypes audience on another platform."

Mr Borkowski suggested that the royal couple need to learn from the "setback" and attract a "top team" to help them with creating content.

He added that the Sussexes perhaps need to go in a different direction and consider the possibility that they are not getting their messaging right for their audience.

He explained that their followers were perhaps "not looking for great pronouncements on civil society... maybe what they want from Meghan is a lifestyle brand".

While Harry, whose bombshell memoir Spare was heavily critical of the Royal Family, may need to focus his content on being more of a royal "soap opera".
