Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not "universally revered" and some believe "they have got a bit of an attitude", according to claims made by their fellow residents living in Montecito, California.
After leaving the Royal Family in 2020, the 38-year-old Duke and 41-year-old Duchess of Sussex, relocated to the glitzy neighbourhood and moved into an expansive chateau, where they are raising their two children, three-year-old Archie, and one-year-old Lilibet.
The house is thought to have a cinema, private gym, tennis court and spa, alongside Archie and Lilibet's own playground, reports The Daily Express.
Reporters went to the beachfront town, to speak to local residents in the street about the celebrity couple.
Katie, who works as a retired university lecturer, said the Sussexes move to Montecito has "divided" many residents.
She said: “A lot of people think, ‘yeah fun’, but a lot of people think, ‘they have got a bit of an attitude’.
“I do not think they are universally revered.”
She said she had gone up to the road where the Sussex family lives, saying locals in the area remain curious about their neighbourhood royalty.
Katie added: “They are interested. People want to see what they are doing.
“They do not have bad motives.”
She “did drive by their street once”, she revealed, but “did not stop or peer in at all”.
However Judy, who was walking next to Katie, dismissed the Duke and Duchess as public figures who she is “truly not interested” in following.
She added: “There are people I know who are interested and curious about what they are doing.
“But I do not have any particular need to find out more about them.”
Yet sports sale representative Dave Kanarek, who lives in Santa Barbara said he has not “really heard much about Harry and Meghan” going about their lives in the local area.
He added from outside his workplace, Mountain Air Sports, that the Duke and Duchess “keep themselves to themselves”.
He continued: “That’s why they live here. It is a pretty mellow town.”
It is also one in which the residents “treat the celebrities who live here just like anybody else”.
However, according to the latest reports, the Duke and Duchess might be moving from Montecito, where celebrities including Orlando Bloom, Ariana Grande and Gwyneth Paltrow live.
The couple could be moving to the exclusive community of Hope Ranch, which is just a few miles down the road from where they currently live.
But royal biographer Tina Brown said the "super rich" Hope Ranch would be a "wholly different game" for the Sussex family.
Speaking at the Henley Literary Festival, she said: "In Montecito, their $14 million mansion is a humble cottage compared to what these other people have.”
