BENGALURU: Bangalore city police have started installing solar delineators and bollards at various junctions and roads in the city since Friday. These blinking indicators with a combination of red, yellow and white lights are being installed at the starting point of each median to alert motorists about the structure.
Consistent road widening, addition of flyovers and new roads have led to an increase in the number of medians in the city over the years. Police say this has also resulted in an increase in accidents, including those where riders/drivers die after their vehicles ram medians. Non-fatal accidents involving medians too are high.
Installation of delineators and bollards, they said, could prevent a lot of these accidents. These indicators are being installed in Banashankari, Jayanagar, Peenya, Yeshwantpur and other thickly populated areas. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic-west) Kuldeep Kumar Jain told TOI that his jurisdiction will get at least 500 delineators soon. “In less than two months, almost all roads in the west traffic division will have them. Motorists can clearly see delineators and bollards from a distance of at least 100 meters. Chances of vehicles ramming medians will be less,” he said.
