The Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh’s new and first Chancellor and former Additional Chief Secretary of West Bengal Madan Lal Meena has said that new university campus will be constructed on a par with international standards near Saluru of Parvatipuram-Manyam district within three years.
Mr. Meena, who was recently appointed as the Chancellor by President Droupadi Murmu, was given a rousing reception at the temporary campus located on the outskirts of Vizianagaram on Friday. University Vice Chancellor T.V. Kattimani welcomed him and later introduced the faculty members.
Mr. Meena, who has vast experience in handling tribal issues as a District Magistrate and Collector during his tenure as an IAS officer (1983-2017), said the university would be developed as one of the best academic institutions in the country.
He told The Hindu that the Union government had sanctioned ₹300 crore for the first phase construction activity in the identified 561.88 acres of land.
“On a par with Amarkantak Tribal University of Madhya Pradesh, the Central University of Andhra Pradesh will be ready within three years. Work will begin at the project site soon after the identification of the construction company. The campus will have all the required infrastructure like laboratories, digital classrooms, library and playground,” said Mr. Meena.
“The students will get exposure to field work with the adoption of ‘Lab to Land and Land to Lab’ concept. Students from all States can study here. We are hopeful that the entire construction activity will be completed by 2026,” he added.
Earlier, he interacted with the academic and administrative staff separately. Mr. Meena, Dr. Kattimani and other senior officials will visit the project site on Saturday.
