McFly’s Tom Fletcher reveals A&E dash over painful eye condition: ‘For now, it’s dark rooms and sunglasses’

Tom Fletcher revealed he’s been struck down with a painful eye condition that left him in A&E.

The McFly star, 37, gave his fans a health update on Instagram and revealed that he has to undergo six weeks of steroid treatment to treat a bout of uveitis.

According to the NHS, uveitis is inflammation of the middle layer of the eye, called the uvea or uveal tract.

It can cause eye pain and changes to your vision. Fortunately, most cases get better with treatment.

Taking to social media on Monday, the All About You singer shared a selfie, illustrating how swollen one of his eyes looked and another photo of him following doctor’s orders in a pair of sunglasses.

He penned alongside the pics: “Sorry I’ve been quiet for a bit. I was wiped out with some sort of illness and in bed for a few days.

“I just got back on my feet yesterday and uveitis decided to kick me down again.”

The former Strictly Come Dancing star shared his gratitude the NHS for their “amazing” help and “to have a dedicated eye A&E hospital in London”.

He continued: “Very grateful to have a dedicated eye A&E hospital in London! It’s the 2nd time I’ve stumbled into that place holding my eyes and they’ve been amazing.

“Also, shout out to my amazing optician, Dipesh at @parkerandhammond who was giving me advice at nearly midnight last night. Hero!

“For now, it’s dark rooms, sunglasses and 6 weeks of steroids. Merry Christmas!”

Following his post, the Obviously hitmaker was inundated with well wishes from fans and followers willing him to “get better soon”.

One fan commented: “I too have suffered with uveitis, not pleasant. Hope you’re back to full health soon.

“Aww I get uveitis… It’s so painful! Take care,” another sympathised.

While presenter Lisa Snowdon shared: “Ouch – feel better soon” and his McFly bandmate Harry Judd joked: “That’s an elaborate excuse for pink eye.”
