McFly’s Lorraine performance gets mixed response from ITV viewers

McFly have been sending Noughties hearts racing across the country with the recent release of their eighth studio album, Power To Play.

But while news of the chart-topping group’s new project, which was released on June 9, sent their fans into overdrive, the band’s latest performance hasn’t quite gone to plan.

McFly appeared on ITV’s Tuesday instalment of Lorraine, where the group, consisting of Dougie Poynter, Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones and Harry Judd, were scheduled to talk about the new project, as well as performing track Honey I’m Home. The band say their new project is inspired by Eighties rock bands including Van Halen.

The UK pop-punks, known for hits like All About You, will also mark 20 years since their 2004 debut single Five Colours In Her Hair next year.

Following a catch-up with ITV presenter Lorraine Kelly, the band launched into an acoustic performance of Honey I’m Home, the latest track from their new album.

As they performed, it was Danny’s vocals that got people talking on social media, with the band receiving a mixed reception on Twitter, quickly trending on the platform following their appearance.

Over Tom’s guitar playing, Danny powerfully belted out the track into the mic, in a Bruno Mars-esque ballad fashion. The track features some tricky high notes which may be challenging to approach live, and at points it seems the McFly member struggled to hit them,

Viewers quickly shared their thoughts on the bands performance. One viewer tweeted: “#lorraine Was reading the paper but had to look up to see who was singing so badly- couldn’t believe it was mcfly #notgreatlive”

Another user wrote: “Dogs all around the country crying in pain”.

The most resounding judgement came from user @DavidMackayy, who tweeted: “What a bloody racket.. McFly sounding like melted ice cream on a summers day #lorraine”.

Despite the lukewarm response to their performance, the band continued their promotion on the popular ITV daytime show, vowing to Lorraine that they will get naked if their comeback is a success.

Danny said on the show: "Yeah we will definitely will take all our clothes off again. We are so proud of this album, we just want people to hear it and enjoy it. The fan reaction has been amazing and it’s the album they’ve been waiting for for 20 years, 15 years, So yeah. We will get naked if it goes to number one. We will. I promise."

However, bandmate Tom – who shares three children with his presenter wife Giovanna Fletcher, quickly chimed: "I don’t look like that anymore though, I’ve got a bit of a dad bod now, I’m just gonna stand behind Doug!"
