McDonald's customer fumes after she bit into lizard in burger and is offered measly sum

A McDonald's customer was left sickened after biting into a burger and finding a lizard inside.

The woman, who said she discovered the reptile inside her Big Tasty burger at a restaurant near Paris, said it was "squashed" and had its guts "hanging out".

Staff at the fast food chain offered the woman, who is in her 30s and wishes to remain anonymous, a mere 10 per cent discount after she complained.

She said the employees didn't even appear shocked when she told them about the revolting find.

The woman, quoted in the Express after speaking to French newspaper Le Parisien, said: "I felt there was something strange. I opened [the burger] up and discovered a squashed lizard with its guts hanging out."

She continued: "I got the impression they weren’t surprised, The cook was there and at no point did he come and see us. The supervisor wasn’t there."

Her friend said the lizard was covered in sauce and believes the member of kitchen staff who prepared the burger must have known what was in it.

The customer barely bit the creature but stopped breastfeeding her son because of fears she could pass on a disease such as salmonella.

She felt sick after the incident and had difficulty sleeping. The woman visited her doctor the next day who prescribed antibiotics as a precaution.

The restaurant's manager subsequently made contact with the complainant to put her in communication with the firm's insurer.

The woman has enlisted the help of a lawyer who stored the lizard in a fridge for weeks in case any tests needed to be performed on it, but he says the food safety authorities have not been in touch.

He is now suing McDonald's for "endangering the life of others". A hearing has been scheduled for next year.

McDonald's management said they are taking the complaint "very seriously" but had found "nothing untoward" after an internal investigation was carried out.

A spokesperson said: "Food quality and security are the top priority of the brand and as a result numerous audits and checks are applied throughout the preparation of our menus."
