McCoist sparks heated debate as he floats unlikely Alli to Rangers or Celtic transfer

McCoist sparks heated debate as he floats unlikely Alli to Rangers or Celtic transfer

ALLY MCCOIST has floated a possible move to Celtic or Rangers for struggling Everton midfielder Dele Alli.

The Ibrox hero suggested the 26-year-old could view a move to Scotland as a chance to prove himself after a difficult period down south.

Alli has been linked with a move to Turkey to join Besiktas but McCoist claimed Alli is in the 'last chance saloon' as he sparked a debate over a move to Glasgow.

Speaking to a talkSPORT caller Dan who is a Celtic supporter, McCoist assumed the pair would agree over a conditional move for Alli.

McCoist asked: "We were talking earlier on Dan, I'm guessing, I don't know but you would take Dele Alli at Celtic? Because I'd take him at Rangers, mate."

But the caller was adamant Alli wouldn't get into the Celtic team and claimed McCoist was doing Rangers a disservice with his transfer talk.

He said: "Not in the slightest Ally, I think you're doing your club a disservice.

"Dele Alli coming up here - categorically he's done absolutely nothing in four years.

"He'd get nowhere near the Celtic midfield.

"What has he done to deserve to come into Champions League football - absolutely nothing.

"The weight of expectation to play for Celtic or Rangers doesn't seem like something he would embrace."

McCoist responded by suggesting a 'pay as you play' deal would be the only viable agreement as he questioned a move to Turkey.

He added: "I take your point Dan, totally. The only way I'm thinking is if he would be prepared to come on a kind of pay as you play deal.

"One of the massive problems is that these guys are on so much money now. I understand they don't want to take a drop.

"All I'm thinking is that he's now probably drinking in the last chance saloon.

"If he goes to Turkey man...I just can't get it."

Ex-England striker Gabby Agbonlahor weighed in on the debate as he claimed it wouldn't be fair on the Glasgow rivals to settle for a move for Alli.

He commented: "I don't think it's fair Rangers or Celtic say 'okay come to us' if it's not working out in the Prem."

However, McCoist stuck to his guns but conceded Alli has been well off the boil in recent season.

He continued: "I don't mean that all. But I don't think we can argue - we haven't seen it in the last couple of years - but there is an outstanding talent in Dele Alli.

"If it suited Rangers or Celtic in a pay as you play or something like that the deal that he wanted to come and prove himself I think there'd maybe be an offer."
