Most buyers looking for something cheap will go for a subcompact crossover. The segment offers some of the last true affordable options for families, and they are spoiled for choice: the Chevrolet Trax, Kia Seltos, Honda HR-V, Volkswagen Taos. The list goes on.
Toyota and Mazda compete in that segment, too, but they both offer something a bit different. The Toyota Corolla Cross is one of the few subcompact SUVs available with a hybrid, while the Mazda CX-30 stands out with an optional turbocharged engine.
