A riot at El Castillo prison in Mazatlán, in Mexico's Sinaloa state, left 10 people dead and 16 inmates injured Thursday, authorities said. Nine of those killed were prisoners; the other victim was a family member visiting the facility, identified by media reports as a child.
Sinaloa's Public Security Secretariat said the injured inmates were taken for medical care. "Nine people deprived of their liberty, one family visitor and 16 more inmates were injured," the agency said in a statement.
