She left the cage at UFC 303 with one of the deepest cuts in recent memory, but Mayra Bueno Silva still says her fight shouldn’t have been stopped.
Bueno Silva (10-4-1 MMA, 5-4-1 UFC) lost by TKO to Macy Chiasson (11-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC), who opened up a gash above the Brazilian’s right eye with a slicing elbow. After some deliberation, referee Chris Tognoni, in consultation with the cageside doctor, shut the fight down.
The cut appeared to be at least an inch wide, and right above Bueno Silva’s eyebrow.
“Last night, I was in the mood for war,” Bueno Silva posted in Portuguese on Instagram, loosely translated. “I was there to sweat, bleed and everything that can happen in a war, but unfortunately the referee thought it was better to stop the fight. I don’t agree with the result because whoever goes in there knows the dangers that can occur. I was 100 percent aware and lucid. I’ll be back soon.”
The loss for Bueno Silva may be particularly painful considering in January, she lost a vacant women’s bantamweight title fight to Raquel Pennington. Back-to-back losses to the current champ, and now to the woman who is hoping to be next in line, might push Bueno Silva back in the pack for a while.
