In a recent incident at Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass' Windsor Park mansion, a 29-year-old intruder named Ephraim Hunter attempted to break in while the mayor was at home with her family. The trespasser, believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine, left a trail of blood after smashing a glass door and yelling the mayor's name as he tried to access various bedrooms on April 22.
During the break-in, there was a gap in protection due to a routine shift change in the LAPD security plan schedule, which left no officers on the property. However, Mayor Bass's German shepherd, Stax, played a crucial role in delaying and scaring off the intruder without resorting to biting.
Prosecutors suspect that Hunter was specifically targeting Mayor Bass, as indicated by his actions inside the property. District Attorney George Gascón mentioned that there were signs suggesting the intruder knew he was in the mayor's home and was actively seeking her out.
Following the incident, Hunter was arrested and faces two felony charges of residential burglary with people present and vandalism. If convicted, he could potentially receive a sentence of up to 13 years in prison. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 3 for further proceedings.
The LAPD officials expressed confusion over Gascón's claims, hinting that he might have access to additional information not available to the investigators. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of security measures and the role that vigilant pets like Stax can play in protecting homes during unexpected events.
