Maya Jama denies reports that she will quit Love Island and be replaced with Maura Higgins

Maya Jama has denied she has any plans to stop presenting Love Island after reports suggesting Maura Higgins is being lined up as her replacement.

The 30-year-old has hosted the reality series since last year but, according to The Sun, she may step down after the 2025 summer series.

Jama wrote on Instagram: “I will be presenting Love Island next year and have no plans to leave right now.

“(I) filmed promo a couple of days ago actually.

“Fake news is fake news-ing as usual.”

Higgins, 34, who rose to fame as a contestant on Love Island in 2019, has since become a regular on the celebrity circuit and impressed as the host of Love Island USA: Aftersun.

The Sun reported that Jama could be moving on despite having been in the role for just a year.

“Maya adores hosting Love Island and thinks it’s a great fit for now,” a so-called insider is said to have told the Sun.

“But she’s keen to leave on a high and keep her career moving forward on the right tracks.

“She is incredibly ambitious and would like to keep focusing on primetime presenting opportunities. She also has hopes of working in America and doesn’t want to be tied down.”

Jama took over presenting duties from Laura Whitmore in January 2023. Since then, she has been hosting two series per year.

Higgins has moved up to presenter on the USA spin off, having previously been a social host on the show. She has also been a contestant on Dancing on Ice.

“She has been building up her skills as a presenter and is very much part of the Love Island family,” the alleged insider might have said. “She also has the unique perspective of having appeared herself as a contestant.

"She’s just also had a successful stint on I’m A Celeb so the world is her oyster now.”

Jama was recently named on the Standard 100 list of top people shaping the capital in 2024 and said that she had aspirations to retire by 40 years old.

She also hinted in the interview that she might be open to acting.

“I’ve done every TV show in the UK that I want to do,” said Jama. “My little experiment with producing showed me I’m ready for a new challenge and that might be acting. I’m open to it.”
