The Dodgers and star third baseman Max Muncy agreed to a new two-year contract on Thursday which will lock down the veteran slugger through the 2025 MLB season, per an announcement from the team.
Muncy’s new deal is worth a total of $24 million and will include a club option for the 2026 season worth $10 million. The 33-year-old was set to hit free agency after the 2024 season, but his new contract will keep him in Los Angeles for at least two more seasons.
Muncy had a club option for the 2024 season in his previous deal worth $14 million. Rather than pick up the final year of his contract, Los Angeles will extend his stay with the franchise for another two years, during which he’ll make $12 million in both 2024 and 2025.
In 2023, Muncy slashed .212/.333/.475. He set a career high with 105 RBI and also tied his best-ever mark with 36 home runs. In the last six seasons, Muncy has four campaigns with 35 or more home runs, serving as one of MLB’s most consistent sluggers during that span.
Across eight MLB seasons with the Dodgers and Athletics, Muncy has made two All-Star appearances.
