Mattress Mick pays tribute to wife after she passes away following short illness

Mattress Mick has paid tribute to his wife after she died recently following a short illness.

Margaret Flynn, the wife of the Dublin businessman, passed away peacefully at the age of 63 at St Francis Hospice in Raheny on February 1.

The couple had been married for 40 years after they met working in a grocery shop owned by Mick.

He has since told the Sunday World about their love story, saying: "I opened a shop in Ringsend many years ago, a grocery store, and she came for an interview.

"She managed the shop for me and then it just developed into a relationship."

He paid tribute to Margaret for being a rock for him during tough times throughout his life, admitting: "She was a great support to me during the difficult years."

Margaret leaves behind her husband, two daughters, Michelle and Marina, and three grandchildren as well as her son-in-law, five siblings and other extended family members.

Her funeral took place on February 4 in St John the Baptist Church, Clontarf, and she was buried afterwards in Deansgrange Cemetery.

This sad news comes as 'Mattress Mick the Musical' is set to come to Dublin and Mick confirmed his love story with Margaret will feature in the musical "because she is part of my story."

The musical will follow the life of Michael Flynn, aka Mattress Mick, and the play will premiere on April 27 and 28 at the Liberty Hall Theatre in Dublin.

Writer and director Josephine McCaffery described the musical as a "story about a man who lost everything, but by being creative and not giving up, he managed to turn it all around."

The show is still looking for a star to play the role of Mattress Mick and budding actors between the ages of 20 and 40 can send a CV and headshots to ussaunproductions@gmail.com.
