'Matter of pride': Karnataka CM lauds Prakhar Chaturvedi for record-breaking knock of 404

NEW DELHI: Prakhar Chaturvedi's historic feat of scoring an unbeaten 404 in the Cooch Behar Trophy final earned praise from Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah.

The CM took to his official social media account to congratulate the Karnataka Under-19 Cricket Team for clinching the Cooch Behar Trophy, marking the state's first victory in 79 years.

Siddaramaiah expressed his joy at the team's achievement, adding that Prakhar's unbeaten 404 is a "matter of pride." He acknowledged the significance of the victory in enhancing the Sankranti festival celebrations for the people of Karnataka.

In his social media post, Siddaramaiah stated, "Congratulations to the Karnataka Under-19 Cricket Team for winning the Cooch Behar Trophy for the first time in 79 years. This win added to the Sankranti festival celebrations. Opening batsman Prakhar Chaturvedi's unbeaten 404 is a matter of pride."

Highlighting the team's overall performance, Siddaramaiah mentioned that the Karnataka team set a new milestone by amassing a record total of 890 runs in their first innings before declaring. He expressed his hope that young players from the state would continue to achieve such landmarks at the international level in the future.

Prakhar's remarkable innings in the title clash against Mumbai saw him facing 638 deliveries and smashing 46 boundaries and 3 sixes. His record-breaking knock surpassed the previous highest individual score in the Cooch Behar Trophy final, held by India's former star batter Yuvraj Singh.

Prakhar's achievement has placed him second on the list of highest individual scores in the tournament, following Maharashtra's Vijay Zol's unbeaten 451 in the 2011-12 season.

The historic win and Prakhar Chaturvedi's exceptional performance have brought pride and joy to Karnataka's cricketing community, marking a significant moment in the state's cricketing history.
