Matt Zukowski Responds To Tammy Hembrow’s Viral Comments About His I’m A Celebrity Stint

Tammy Hembrow and Matt Zukowski

Just when you thought their divorce drama had finished playing out in the public eye, Matt Zukowski has officially responded after Tammy Hembrow went viral with her (very shady) thoughts on his recent I’m A Celebrity stint.

The mega-influencer and mum-of-three told PEDESTRIAN.TV at the “Wuthering Heights” premiere in Sydney last week — where she hard-launched her controversial new relationship with actor Grayson Te Moana — that she didn’t tune into Matt’s jungle adventure, but had seen a few emotional snippets.

“Um, I don’t watch it, so… I mean, I’ve been sent a few clips, and they’re…” she said before giggling.

“I mean, there’s been a bit of tears that I’ve seen. I cry all the time, so it’s okay, I don’t know. I don’t really watch him, though. I don’t watch any of that.”

Her candid response sparked an immediate social media frenzy and gained over two million views — including Matt, who has confessed to P.TV that he wasn’t impressed.

“Look, I was a bit shook,” he said. “I’ve had a lot of backlash in recent weeks about me crying on national television, but I do like to show my vulnerability — I wear my heart on my sleeve.”

He continued: “I just don’t feel like people should be making fun of that. We should have a society where people are open to men showing their feelings and emotions.”

Although Matt himself has poked fun at his tears on the show and shared a gallery on Instagram featuring the iconic screenshot, he said that his ex’s comments speak to a much larger issue.

“In 2026, no one should be laughing at anyone showing their emotions, male or female. There’s no humour in a man crying and showing his emotions,” he added.

“Men showing emotion shouldn’t be treated as entertainment or something to laugh at. Vulnerability is not weakness.”

Viewers respond to Matt’s emotional scenes

Matt went on to say that he’s seen “countless” comments, messages and TikToks mocking his tears, but he’s incredibly proud of how he carried himself on the show.

“I’m just an open book. I went in there and made a conscious effort to just be myself,” he said.

“The jungle came at the perfect time for me. To get off social media, get off my phone and strip life back to the bare essentials — I honestly feel like I healed tremendously in there. I’m so grateful for the opportunity.”

He added that he didn’t anticipate how deeply his emotional moments would resonate with viewers, and he’s received plenty of encouragement online.

“As much as I’ve seen negative messages, I’ve had even more positive ones,” he shared. “A lot of men have reached out thanking me for showing vulnerability, and parents have told me they’re glad their young boys saw that. That means a lot.”

Matt’s emotional openness is closely tied to his passion for mental health advocacy and connection to R U OK?, which was his charity in the jungle.

“You go to work, you post on social media, you smile, but behind closed doors, it can be very different. A simple question, ‘Are you okay?’, can go so far. I know it did for me,” he said.

“I encourage everyone: if you think someone isn’t doing great, ask them.”
