Matt Smith takes selfies with bouncers to skip club queues and blag entry for friends

After hit roles in Doctor Who and The Crown, Matt Smith is one of the most famous actors in the country.

But on the odd occasion he doesn’t get recognised, Matt has a found a handy way to ensure he can still get into the swankiest places, writes Halina Watts.

He doesn’t resort to menial activities such as queuing… instead, Matt cheekily offers to take selfies with door staff to get him and his pals in to the best nightclubs in town.

I’ve been told Matt – who will next appear in Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon – recently pulled the trick at the trendy XOYO club in London’s Shoreditch, which is renowned for electronic music and raves.

A source revealed: “Matt was having a great night out with a big group of friends and colleagues but worried that because of the size of their party, they’d struggle to get in.

The actor said he doesn't watch himself in films (© 2022 Home Box Office, Inc. All rights reserved. HBO® and all related programs are the property of Home Box Office, Inc.)

“Normally, he’s not one to pull the celebrity card and finds it all a bit embarrassing. He’s certainly not a demanding diva but, on this occasion after a friendly nudge from some pals, he couldn’t resist using his fame to ensure their night out wasn’t cut short.

“Of course, he made sure to do it very discreetly and even made a joke of it so no one thought he was up himself.

“The door staff found the funny side, and were more than happy to oblige.”

Matt’s entourage included a number of crew members from the Game of Thrones prequel, which is due to be released in August.

Whether it will be as good as the legendary HBO fantasy series, well… Matt has no idea.

The actor, who will play Prince Daemon Targaryen in the prequel, says candidly: “Truth is, I don’t know, because I’ve not seen any of House of the Dragon.

“It’s quite hard to have an opinion on the work you’ve done, because it comes and goes without you having seen it.”

I guess he’s right… why watch your own films and TV shows when you can go out clubbing instead, right?
