Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said he believes Kyle Rittenhouse is “not guilty” and he would consider bringing him on as an intern after his high-profile murder trial.

On Wednesday, Gaetz spoke to Newsmax host Grant Stinchfield and expressed that Rittenhouse “would probably make a good congressional intern.”

“We may reach out to him and see if he’d be interested in helping the country in additional ways,” Gaetz said.

The jury in Rittenhouse’s high-profile trial is ongoing, with another day of deliberations scheduled for Thursday.

The 18-year-old is accused of killing two people and injuring a third during a protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last summer over the police shooting of Jacob Blake.

Rittenhouse claimed his acts were in self-defense during the trial.

“He deserves a not guilty verdict, and I sure hope he gets it,” Gaetz said.

He also publicly denounced the punishment of rioter Jacob Chansley, 34, who stormed Capitol Hill in a fuzzy hat with horns on Jan. 6.

He received a 41-month prison sentence.

“This QAnon Shaman is a relatively harmless, non-violent vegan, and the notion that he has to be in prison for three and a half years to settle some sort of political score defies justice,” Gaetz said.

He also said that the American people have a Department of Justice that is “the most political agency in Washington.”

Gaetz is under investigation for allegedly paying underage females for sex in violation of federal sex trafficking legislation in 2019.

Despite the allegations, he has denied any wrongdoing.
