MasterChef winner and Great British Bake Off runner-up announced for Bishop Auckland Food Festival

Organisers of a County Durham food festival say they're "expecting to pull in visitors from far and wide" after announcing a MasterChef winner and Great British Bake Off runner-up as headliners.

The Bishop Auckland Food Festival brought in a record 30,000 visitors in April 2022 and it is hoped that number will be even higher after the announcement of the latest celebrity chefs who will be giving demonstrations. In February, This Morning's Phil Vickery, cookery writer Rachel Allen and Great British Bake Off semi-finalist Janusz Domagala were confirmed for the festival.

And the line-up has now been completed with 2018 MasterChef winner Kenny Tutt and Great British Bake Off 2022 runner-up Sandro Farmhouse. Janusz Domagala will appear for the second day, with all three chefs taking to the stage on Sunday April 23.

MasterChef winner Kenny Tutt co-founded PITCH Restaurant and Cookery School with his wife Lucy in his hometown of Worthing just a year after winning the BBC series. He's also headlined food festivals and events across the UK and recently launched a burger "concept" Patty Guy, which has launched premises in Brighton and London.

Sandro Farmhouse is a passionate baker who creates show-stopping cakes and desserts in his spare time. He won the hearts of foodies with his creations on the Great British Bake Off and is "buzzing" with excitement ahead of his appearance in County Durham.

Coun Elizabeth Scott, Durham County Council's cabinet member for economy and partnerships said: "We’re delighted to add Kenny and Sandro to our Sunday programme along with Janusz who, along with our wonderful presenter Chris Bavin, will be with us for both days. With Saturday’s guests, Phil and Rachel, that completes the line-up and what a line-up it is!

"With these kinds of names we’re expecting to pull in visitors from far and wide, which is great for the town. We’ve got lots still to come, and it won’t be long before we can share full details of the traders, workshops and entertainment."

Details of food traders, family entertainment and cookery workshops at the Bishop Auckland Food Festival will be announced soon. The festival takes place on the weekend of April 22 and 23, for more information visit the website.
