Mason Mount sent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain warning amid Liverpool transfer links

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has been warned against signing for Liverpool.

The Reds have been frequently linked with a move for the England international. Various reports have claimed to suggest that Liverpool could launch a bid to sign Mount in the summer.

His current contract with Chelsea is set to expire in 2024 and the London club are keen on handing their academy graduate an extension. However, reports claim that negotiations have stalled between the two parties, leading to rumours that Jurgen Klopp could tempt the player to sign for the Reds.

However, former Chelsea star Tony Cascarino says he has doubts over whether a move to Liverpool would be right for Mount. The pundit went on to explain why he thinks the 24-year-old would struggle to settle in were he to move to Anfield.

“Well, he’ll have interest from clubs without a doubt, he’s played a very high level of football for a number of years. He’s not as good at the moment, but that won’t stop interest,” Cascarino told talkSPORT.

“It comes down to Mason and if he really just wants to stay at Chelsea and sit on money and find himself in and out of a team, because that’s where he is at the moment. Does that sit well with him? Probably not. He’ll want to be in the frame for England and he’s not an England regular if he’s sitting out of the Chelsea team.

“I’m not quite sure where he’s going to play at Liverpool. Is he going to play at the top of a three behind the centre-forward whether that’s [Darwin] Nunez this season?

“He’s not going to play on the right because that’s for [Mohamed] Salah, [Luis] Diaz will come back and he’s on the left.

“He’s a central attacking midfielder. Now Liverpool did have [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain to fill that role and that’s not really happened. So Liverpool will be filling that void that the Ox didn’t really achieve.

“He’s had bad injuries and I feel sorry for him because he did have a number of seriously big injuries. But that’s the only way I can see [Mount] fitting.”
