Mason Mount has already given seal of approval to new Chelsea contract

Mason Mount has already given his seal of approval to Chelsea’s new regime as talks over a new contract begin.

The England international is in line to become one of the club’s highest earners and is ready to snub interest from elsewhere in the Premier League to commit his future to his boyhood club.

New owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are eager keep Mount and fellow academy graduate Reece James as the centrepieces of the club’s new era, with a view to tying more developing young players down to longer-term contracts.

Graham Potter has spoken in glowing terms of Mount and the 23-year-old has previously talked openly of his desire to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the extent of his current contract, which is due to expire in 2024.

“It’s so exciting what the future holds. It’s an unknown but the way it’s started is really exciting to see what’s going to happen,” Mount told Standard Sport in July.

“We’re a team that over the last ten years has been up there and pushing and that is where we want to stay. Speaking to them about their goals and aims, we’re on the same page.

“So hopefully that continues. I’ve got two years left on my contract and I’m very, very happy here. Those talks will hopefully be starting soon.
