Mason Mount answers Jack Grealish transfer question that Chelsea fans will love

Mason Mount has said he is "very, very happy" at Chelsea when asked if he would ever accept a big-money offer to leave the club in the future.

The 23-year-old sees his current contract at Stamford Bridge expire at the end of the 2023/24 season. football.london understands the Blues are in talks with Mount and his entourage over an extension to his deal.

Questions have been asked about Mount at the start of the season with the England international undoubtedly below-par in the opening 10 or so games of the campaign. However, in recent weeks – ever since Graham Potter was appointed as head coach, really – Mount has replicated the levels we have seen from him in recent seasons.

Over the summer transfer window, despite Mount's public adoration of Chelsea, there was speculation over his future. If he was available for transfer, Mount would not be short of admirers. He's proven the levels he can reach ever since making his senior Chelsea debut in 2017.

Despite speculation over his long-term future, Mount is not thinking about that right now. When asked by Tatler magazine whether he'd consider a big-money move away from Chelsea, like his England team-mate Jack Grealish - who moved to Manchester City for £100million last summer - he replied: "I dunno. The money is...

"I've always obviously been a Chelsea boy. I'm very, very happy here. We've been winning some silverware, which is a big goal of mine, I always want to win things."

It's a hint, if anything, that Chelsea need to continue to win silverware in order to keep Mount satisfied. That is, of course, the minimum for elite footballers to keep their morale high.

Mount has been at Chelsea since 2005, but at one of the world's most prestigious academies, it's far from easy to graduate from. There was no guarantee Mount would make it as an elite footballer, or even a professional, but he always had belief in his abilities.

His father, Tony, though, was sceptical about whether his son would make it. "There wasn't the best track record of academy products making it into the first-team," Mount said. "But I always said: 'I'm going to be the one that goes through, to prove you wrong."

Mount did prove his father wrong – and then some. Nowadays, Mount is one of the first names on the teamsheet for one of European football's biggest clubs.
