Masked thieves target donations at temple burglary

CCTV has captured thieves breaking into a Sikh temple and heading for the donation box. (HANDOUT/VICTORIA POLICE)

CCTV has captured the moment a masked man used an angle grinder to break into a Sikh temple, causing damage and stealing a donation box.

Police believe two offenders were involved in the burglary at the Shri Guru Ravidass Sabha temple in Campbellfield, Melbourne's north, about 10.30pm on December 29.

The footage shows the pair arriving at the temple before a masked man wearing a black hoodie, gloves and orange face mask forces entry to the building.

He can be seen approaching the shrine inside and removing a large donation box, before stealing about $1500 cash.

The donation box is carried outside before being left in the car park as the men flee in a car.

Detectives have released CCTV footage and images of one of the men they believe can assist with their investigation.
