Maryland lawmakers pressed state health officials on Sept. 9 over a Medicaid audit that found hundreds of care plans for people receiving home and community-based services had remained unapproved for more than 15 days, some for months or even years, Fox45 reported. Auditors warned that the delays could leave recipients without required services or keep the state paying for services people no longer needed.
The hearing before the General Assembly's Joint Audit and Evaluation Committee focused heavily on millions of dollars in questionable payments. For families, though, the care plan finding may be the most direct concern, because these plans set the services that help older adults and people with disabilities live safely at home.
