Deadpool arrived to Marvel Rivals in typically brash fashion this past January as part of Season 6, and the mid-season update is adding ways to inflict his, ahem, distinct personal qualities on others. They come via new character Elsa Bloodstone, who's joining Wade Wilson's team in a shake-up of a few of the hero shooter's team-ups.
A hunter by trade, Elsa's standard weapons are her trusty rifle and shotgun, while she employs traps to inflict extra damage and stifle opponents. "Elsa excels at reading her opponents," explains Guangguang, creative director of Marvel Rivals, in his overview of Season 6.5. "Darting in and out of combat, to search for openings. When she spots her chance, she charges in, combining the devastating power of her elephant gun with expert close quarters combat skills to finish the hunt."
The more damage she deals, the quicker her weapons cooldown, and it's implied that the optimal way to use her character is by actively switching between guns while constantly moving. One of her traps brings forth a creature known as Diablo, who can hold onto adversaries while Elsa goes for the kill. I can already feel how infuriating that'll be.
Her ultimate is the mighty beast Glartrox, who'll stampede through the arena.
Elsa is also turning the Merc with a Mouth's tag-team with Jeff the Land Shark – known as Mr. Pool's Interdimensional Toy Box Team-Up, of course – into a three-piece, where Deadpool modifies her Breathing Gun. When those altered bullets hit enemies, they're partially blinding, and enemies can hear Wade's unyielding one-liners right up close. Players can call back those same shots to restore some health.
Forget infuriating, that's downright torturous. Alongside this team, the Fantastic Four is no longer a squad, as three of its four members now have other allegiances. Invisible Woman is going with Doctor Strange for Psionic Mayhem; The Thing joins Hulk and Black Panther in Gamma Charge; and Mister Fantastic will be lending his limbs to Rocket and Star-Lord in Rocket Network.
Where's Johnny Storm? We don't know yet, but I wouldn't blame him if he just decided to up and fly away. Anything to avoid Deadpool's incessant yammering. Season 6.5 kicks off on February 13.
