Martin Roberts in tears as he shares sad news with friends and fans

Fans have stepped up to support Homes Under the Hammer presenter Martin Roberts after he shared sad family news. Taking to Instagram the presenter fought tears in an emotional video as he revealed his father has died.

He announced his father died peacefully at the age of 90. In the candid footage, the TV star described losing a parent is "something we all have to deal with" and explained how "alone and horrible" he felt, the Mirror reports.

"So I don't know if I should really be posting this video or not but, I guess people deal with things in different ways." He said. " This is a very private thing but I kind of just need to surround myself with as many people as I can who care right now. "My dad died yesterday. He was 90 and he had a great life and he died peacefully, he died at home and he wasn't in pain so that's great but it doesn't... well it does help but it doesn't help right now," Martin then broke down.

"The loss of a parent is something we all have to deal with and there's much worse losses I know, the loss of a child and stuff like that. But right now I feel really alone and horrible."

Martin added: "So any words you've got would be appreciated. I don't even know if I'll post this but... anyway." After taking a deep breath, he concluded: "Thank you for being there anyway."

Christine McGuinness replied: "Sending love. Thinking of you and your family."

One fan, Canary1970, added: "So sorry Martin if it helps the actor Richard E Grant lost his wife just over a year ago and is devastated. But he posts regularly on Insta and is getting through it. She asked him to think of a pocketful of happiness each day. Take a look it may help you with your grief. Sending love."

Arja1945 wrote: "Holding you in my thoughts and prayers today Martin. You have no idea how much you and Homes Under got me through 6 months of Chemo and will be forever grateful, much love at this sad time xx." Lascelles123 put: "Thinking of you Martin ; no matter how old you are; they are : you only get 1 mum and dad . Know what your going through; virtual hugs xx."

Angie_bharath13 added: "Sorry for your loss martin. My dear mum passed away 6 months ago. The fact that she was 96 doesn't make it any easier...its a process of roller coaster of emotions. Miss her so much. Sending a huge hug."
