Martin Odegaard video proves criticism of Arsenal players' treatment of mascot is misplaced

Arsenal players came under fire on social media after the official Twitter account posted a video of the first-team squad with a mascot ahead of the clash with West Ham the previous day. The players were seen signing a shirt for the young person before heading into the changing room.

However, the thing that appeared to annoy most people on social media was the lack of interaction in the clip between the mascot and their idols. Most players had their headphones in, signing the shirt before moving on and that continued throughout the entirety of the clip.

"Come on guys, at least one of you say hello to her?!!" Television personality and renowned Arsenal fan Piers Morgan tweeted in reaction to the video.

Another TV host in Nick Knowles joined in, adding: "I suggest @Arsenal you get her and her family back and give your players another go at being decent human beings - admittedly they’d have to be coached into it but it might be something that sticks with some of them if it’s pointed out."

Those were just two examples of some of the points that were made as the video was passed around social media with outrage. In an age where football at the top arguably continues to be disconnected from the fans, such a reaction comes as little surprise, but doesn't tell the full story.

The mascot's father took to social media to clear up the situation, posting a tweet that reads: "My daughter had a lovely time as Mascot for @Arsenal. There was only a small window to meet the players and she enjoyed it very much. Odegaard is her favourite player so to hold his hand onto the pitch was very special."

Further videos came out on social media showing there were interactions after the shirt signing too, showing club captain Martin Odegaard stopping for a quick word in the tunnel.

It perhaps shows that after all this, that anger was rather misplaced on one stand-alone clip rather than the full story on social media.
